Kautapen Lodge – Week 10: March 9th to 16th, 2024
As the gentle ripples of the river greet the morning light, we reflect on the week’s angling adventures here at Kau Tapen. The week began with Michael from Germany, our sole guest, casting his line amidst serene surroundings. However, midway through the week, we welcomed Lindsay from England, adding a delightful camaraderie to our angling community. Later, on Thursday, our delight grew with the arrival of Simon from Scotland, ensuring continued camaraderie and shared fishing experiences until the week’s conclusion.
Throughout the past week, the river conditions presented both challenges and opportunities for anglers. Initially, we contended with dark, murky waters from the previous week’s rainfall, coupled with persistent cold mornings and a gradual decrease in water levels. By midweek, signs of improvement emerged as the river cleared up, although fishing remained deep and slow-paced, requiring the use of intruder-style flies and leeches to entice bites. Despite the challenging conditions, anglers adapted their strategies, ultimately enjoying rewarding angling experiences.
The week’s highlights centered around Michael’s impressive catches. His persistence paid off with a beautiful 19-pound female caught during the final hour of the last day, showcasing the importance of perseverance. Additionally, he started strong with a handsome 15.5-pound colored male on the first day, setting the tone for a rewarding angling experience.
